Customize Your Adventure!

If you want to visit specific places only or have a limited time or don't know where you should go then we can help build you your own customised tour. Look through the various regions listed on our site to get some ideas of what is on offer and contact us to discuss your options. Here's some tips about the various regions and what is most popular etc.

  • Abel Tasman National Park - most visited National Park in New Zealand and an absolute must do on your NZ adventure.  Gorgeous golden sand beaches with sparkling clear waters and beautiful native bush. An easy coastal walking track runs the length of the park with options to stop at many bays and beaches. Water taxis can be used to get in or out (or both ways) and to carry luggage if staying overnight in the park. There are campsites or luxury lodges. Sea Kayaking, sailing and canyoning are also all on offer here.

  • Golden Bay - where life is slower and lifestyle is key. See the amazing Pupu Springs, the 400 metre deep Harwoods Hole, the Microsoft Windows famous Wharariki Beach and enjoy an evening at the famous Mussel Inn. Or go deeper and further and take a 4WD drive down the West Coast beach crossing rivers and stay at Kahurangi Lighthouse - this will feel like the end of the world and will be a trip to remember!

  • Nelson Lakes National Park - sits in the centre of the South Island at the base of Tasman Bay and at the Northern End of the Southern Alps (which stretch all the way down the South Island). The 2 main lakes here are Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotoroa both of which feed into the mighty Buller River which flows down to Westport on the West Coast and offers excellent white water rafting. The small alpine village of St Arnaud sits on the edge of Lake Rotoiti which is surrounded by gorgeous southern beech forest and mountains making it a picture perfect alpine lake. Here there are many hiking options including multi day options. Both Lakes offer water taxi services to increase the options.

  • Marlborough Sounds - a series of expansive sea drowned valleys with endless bays and coves surrounded by remote steep hillside country. Offering some of the best fishing in the country (closed to commercial fishing and quotas in place for recreational) you will haul up plenty of cod and snapper (the best eating fish on the planet). Uncrowded with plenty of holiday homes and resorts hidden away in the bush and tree covered coves, you can easily find your own peaceful spot here. Many places are best or only accessed by boat as the roads are long and windy or nonexistent!

  • West Coast - wild and rugged best describes both the west coast and its people! Rocky beaches with big waves and fascinating cliff formations, Jurassic Park like in places. Experience the stunning and unique temperate rainforest along the Punakaiki coastal area, visit the famous Pancake rocks and wander up the less known but even more magical Pororari River Valley (part of one of NZ’s great walks). Seals, penguins, and sea birds, this coast has an abundance of wildlife. Travel deeper to Karamea to visit the Oparara Arches and walk part of the beautiful Heaphy Track (another one of NZ’s great walks and part of the Kahurangi National Park).

  • Molesworth - backcountry New Zealand. Big sheep farming stations deep in the river valleys of the Kaikoura ranges and Southern Alps. Travel the off road trail between Marlborough and Hanmer Springs up the Awatere Valley and stay a night at Middlehurst Station. See the farm in action or take a cooking class and then continue your drive through the Molesworth Station and over the pass to Hanmer Springs. This road is only open each summer and while 2WD accessible is not recommended for novice off road drivers or rental cars.

  • Hanmer Springs - a resort town best known for its thermal mineral waters and spa. Surrounded by walking and biking trails set against the foothills of the southern alps. Relax in one of the 22 thermal pools in a beautiful natural setting - NZ”s finest hot pools.

  • Arthurs Pass - this mountain pass crosses the southern divide and is the main route from Christchurch to the West Coast of the South Island. While the drive across the island takes around 4 hours there are a number of places worth stopping at enroute to make this into a full day's adventure.. Castle Hill for some Asterix like rock formations, Cave Stream for a short cave experience, and The Devils Punchbowl Waterfall at Arthurs Pass Village. It's also possible to do this route by train on one of the worlds most scenic rail routes but you won’t be able to get off to visit the aforementioned sites along the way and you will go through a 8.5km tunnel at the top and miss the highest points of the road completely (where you often see the cheeky Kea - the world's only alpine parrot!). Our recommendation is to drive and take in all the stops along the way.

  • Kaikoura - known for year round whale watching. Also dolphins and seals a plenty on this part of the coast. To view the whales or dolphins you must be booked on a boat trip - each 3 - 4 hours duration. They are separate trips although sometimes you may see the dolphins on the way to the whales.
